Anne Dumond's Year of Water Problems, Handled by One Company

Central Florida · Customer Stories

It started with a slow kitchen drain. The cause turned out to be a collapsed pipe, and fixing it meant chopping up the floor through the laundry room and bathrooms. Then, when Anne Dumond thought the worst was over, a toilet failed and flooded the entire house. True Builders demoed her kitchen, replaced the failed floor plumbing, and rebuilt the kitchen, her bathroom, and the master bath.

From the beginning, Aaron told her that even though this was a disaster, it was an opportunity, and at the time, with no kitchen and barely a bathroom, she could not see it. Now she loves the result. Emily and Erica at the office handled the pictures, the estimates, and the insurance company for her. Her own summary is the best one: "If I didn't choose True Builders, I would have to find all of the individual companies and deal with the insurance company, and I probably would have lost my mind."

One water loss, many trades: who does what

Anne's story shows the real anatomy of a serious water claim. A plumber fixes the failed line. A mitigation crew extracts water and dries the structure. A rebuild crew replaces flooring, drywall, cabinets, and paint. An estimator prices it all in the format insurers require, and someone coordinates the sequence. Hire those separately and you become the general contractor of your own disaster, translating between four companies while living in the mess. That is the concrete meaning of her "lost my mind" line.

What your insurance company actually needs from you

  • Prompt notice of the loss - call the claim in early, even before you know the full scope
  • Photos and video of the damage before repairs, plus the failed part itself if the plumber removes it
  • Proof you mitigated - drying invoices and moisture logs show you prevented further damage
  • A detailed repair scope with line items, which is what a restoration contractor's estimate provides
  • Receipts for everything you spend out of pocket, including temporary housing if you need it
