The Clark Kitchen: From a Dishwasher Leak to the Kitchen They Wanted

Central Florida · Customer Stories

In July their dishwasher died, and the repair tech delivered worse news: it had a hole in the bottom and had been leaking all over the place. The Clarks called True Builders to mitigate the water damage, and by then there was enough of it that cabinet repairs made sense. Then, as he tells it, the project grew honestly: cabinets became the whole kitchen, the kitchen became the flooring.

The referral came from next door: their neighbors had their own kitchen done by True Builders the year before and had a great experience. Early on, Mike told them to trust the process, that before they knew it they would have a great house, and that is how it landed. "They treat the house like it's their house," he says, and the island, the floors, and the finished kitchen met or exceeded everything they expected.

Appliance leaks: the slow ones are the expensive ones

A burst pipe announces itself. A dishwasher with a pinhole leak quietly feeds water under cabinets and flooring for months, which is why the damage is often severe by discovery day.

  • Check under and behind the dishwasher, fridge, and washer yearly for staining, swelling, or musty smell
  • Replace rubber washing machine hoses with braided stainless lines; rubber fails from age alone
  • A warped toe-kick, lifting floor edge, or soft spot near an appliance is water talking
  • If flooring cups or cabinets swell, call for moisture mapping before cosmetic repairs bury the problem

Scope creep versus smart scope

The Clark project growing from cabinets to kitchen to flooring is not a cautionary tale; it is often the rational move. Demolition, dust protection, and crew mobilization are fixed costs you pay once. Adding adjacent work while the space is already open costs meaningfully less than coming back for it in two years, and it avoids the patchwork look of new cabinets against tired floors. The discipline is doing it deliberately: price each addition as a written change order so the growing scope stays a choice, not a surprise.
