Under-Cabinet Leak, Whole New Kitchen: On the Job With the Cabinet Crew
Leo, who leads the True Builders cabinet division, films this one from the job site. The customer had a leak under the cabinets, so the crew is replacing the whole kitchen, and Leo shows one of the custom touches going in: a frame he is building above the refrigerator so the cabinet extends out for easier access.
Why cabinets rarely survive the leak under them
Most cabinet boxes are particle board or MDF, and both drink water like a sponge. Once a base cabinet's bottom or toe-kick swells, it never returns to shape, and the damp material inside a dark cabinet is a mold invitation. Solid plywood boxes tolerate a brief soak better, but the honest rule on any sustained leak is the one this video shows: pull the run, dry the wall and floor behind it properly, and rebuild with new boxes. Saving a warped cabinet saves nothing; it just hides wet history behind a door.
